The Tyler Zaentz Memorial Champion's College Scholarship With heavy hearts, Len Ross Memorial Junior Golf Tournament and the First Tee - Fresno announce that the Fresno junior golf community lost a valued member, Tyler Zaentz, on July 13, 2020 at the early age of 26. He played at Fresno Christian High School before continuing his golf career at U.C. Santa Barbara. Following his college golf days, Tyler returned to competitive golf in the valley including the Fresno City Amateur Championship as recent as 2019. Tyler began his junior golf career as many local golfers do by competing in the Len Ross Junior Championship when the late Mr. Ross still served as the Tournament Director. Tyler's family said, "His life was too short but he had a vision to fund golf scholarships for promising student athletes. He loved his family. He truly enjoyed the sport of golf for the relationships and lessons that it taught all of us." This is what Mr. Ross built the tournament's legacy off of and is part of the founding principle's of the First Tee that is still seen throughout the tournament today. In remembrance of this and his much success as a junior golfer, Tournament Director Morgan Berling has announced the Overall Winner of both the Boys and Girls flights will both receive college scholarships in Tyler's honor. Berling says that she grew up playing junior golf with Tyler and it is an honor that his family is allowing the tournament to continue his vision in this way. The first annual Tyler Zaentz Memorial Champion's College Scholarship will be gifted in 2021 at the conclusion of the 74th playing of the Len Ross Memorial Junior Golf Tournament. |
